Katy, Texas (February 4, 2010) - On Thursday, January 28, 2010, the Houston Arts Alliance hosted an Arts Reception honoring Mayor Annise D. Parker. The party was held in the Founders Club at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts downtown. Houston's elite art community was fully represented along with the Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center, as KVPAC Executive Director, Fleurette Fernando, attended the affair with Robin Romero, Director of Finance & Administration, and Lisa Connolly, Director of Marketing & Public Relations.

"It was an excellent opportunity for KVPAC to be recognized as a fellow member of the arts community and we were honored with the invitation to attend the welcoming of Mayor Parker," said Lisa Connolly. "She gave a terrific speech about how the arts are ‘good for business' and she is right. A thriving art culture in any city boosts tourism and encourages businesses to make their home here. We certainly try to do our share in Katy by offering more and more visual art and theatre opportunities to families looking to enrich themselves and their children in creative mediums. We hope that is one of the many reasons people want to live here. We are very proud to be able to contribute to that."

As for meeting the Mayor, "I so wanted to slip her two tickets to our upcoming production of Sylvia," Connolly laughed. "But I lost my nerve! Next time we will invite her to a special performance in her honor."

KVPAC's Encore Players production of Sylvia performs February 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20 on the Kennedy Grand Stage at the Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center, 2501 S Mason Rd #290, Katy, TX 77450. Tickets available on-line at www.kvpac.org.
